My Green Days
The music by Green Day is often labeled as punk rock. I would rather call it energy music. There is something about the harmonies, the riffs and the tempo that I find rejuvenating. Every time I listen to A Thousand Hours something ignites inside me and I want to race out and see what the world serves up. It get's your batteries recharged to the point of sending sparks - if you let it. Just tuning in isn't enough - you have to connect, drop everyday pains, cares and worries for a moment, and simply enjoy being alive.
I got 1000 hours as a LP just a year before I turned thirty and I remember listening to it until the grooves started wearing out. Maybe it got played so much because it embodied youth and vitality and I feared that crossing 30 meant the end of being wild. As if I was approaching would be some kind of maturity milestone, end-of-the-line for having fun and being free... that sort of thing.
Nirvana and Green Day led to a later infatuation with the band during the 90's, Until this day (I'm now mid-50's) I still rotate all these bands through my playlists and enjoy the energetic re-charge they offer and Smashing Pumpkins Live is currently one of my favs. I guess you could say the music itself carries enough juice to make you feel young- no matter what your current age might be. I may not try to stand on my hands or hop on a skateboard anymore but inside I do cartwheels with ease with this kind of music.
People travel to distant places in search of secrets to eternal life and rejuvenating fountains when all you need is music which can make you feel immortal and raises your endorphin levels - which actually may extend your lifespan.
Try it. Play it loud.
